EPZA And Pakistan Machine Tool Factory
Export Processing Zone (EPZA) and Pakistan Machine Tool Factory (PMTF) were another two important organizations under the umbrella of Ministry of Industries and Production, who remained ignored and neglected during the PPP government. The staff didn’t get their salaries and the situation got worsened. EPZA, being financially stable organization, has been merged with PMTF to streamline the routine functions and stabilize the other institution.
As Federal Minister in Care Taking Setup
One of the most ignored and declined Federal Government organization in the last decade, is Federal Ministry of Industries and Production. Being formercaretaker Federal Minister for Industries and Production during interim-setup for just 60 days (2 Months), after the 5 year long (2008-2013) tenure of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), the situation was such, that the national organizations were at the ebb of recession primarily Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM), Utility stores Corporation (USC), Export Processing Zone (EPZA), Heavy Mechanical Complex (HMC) and the list goes on.
Being former caretaker Federal Minister, I immediately directed the concerned Federal Secretaries, to hold the emergency review meetings within first week, with all the above mentioned organizations alongwith comprehensive presentation on key issues, problems or challenges being faced by the concerned organization. Soon upon realization of the issues, high record of Rs. 14 Billion. The main policy direction is towards the grassroots level modern marketing techniques, focus on quality customer services and ensure availability of quality products at affordable price across the country. For monitoring purpose, weekly review meetings were conducted to analyze the region wise performance.
Action against unethical practices of autmobile industry in pakistan
Being former caretaker Federal Minister, another key organization Engineering Development Board (EDB) primarily dealing with all the big names of automobile manufacturers and providers in Pakistan has been strictly asked not to charge any CAR-ON money from customers on the booking of new vehicles. At that point in time, CAR-ON of Rs 2 Lac was charged by some automobile dealers in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. Upon immediate realization of this heinous act from the industry, I have asked all the CEOs of the concerned automobiles through the platform of EDB to ensure not to charge CAR-ON money from customers. In this context for public awareness, specialized advertisement has also been released in the leading national dailies.
Heavy Mechanizal Complex (HMC)
Another affected organization of the last regime, was Heavy Mechanical Complex, working under the ambit of Ministry of Industries and Production. I have mobilize the organization and paved the way to link the organization for the manufacturing of heavy machines and parts in the Railways, Sugar industry and Civil Development Authorities like CDA and LDA, to support manufacturing in large bridges, and civic infrastructure projects to utilize the full potential of the Organization as per the envisaged functions.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)
In 2012, while heading PIA I managed to get an investment offer by Kuwait group Mousa A Bahman group, to revamp the national carrier with a soft loan of USD 1.5 billion on five years terms with a grace period of two years. The effort of revamping the national carrier had been hit by political motives of the then leadership and couldn’t materialize till date.
